The number one cause of death in the United States is cardiovascular disease. Through improper diet and toxic damage to the body, people develop a thickening of interior vessel walls, usually by fatty or mineral deposits that reduce the opening size and obstruct blood flow. This process is probably precipitated by free radical damage.

Restricted blood flow prevents tissues from getting oxygen and nutrients, which prevents wounds from healing, causes coldness in the extremities and affects memory and cognitive function. When a blood clot forms in the circulatory system it may get lodged in the heart, causing cardiac arrest, or in the brain, causing a stroke.

Although cholesterol has been implicated as the primary culprit in hardening of the arteries, more recent research is showing this is simply not the case. High insulin levels are a much better indicator of cardiovascular risk than is high cholesterol. Free radical damage or oxidative stress is at the root of this problem, so reducing free radical damage withantioxidants like CoQ10 and Super ORAC can be very helpful in preventing this problem.

A little known factor that contributes significantly to this problem is the chlorination of water supplies. Chlorine is a free radical that turns high-density lipoproteins into low-density lipoproteins. Put into layman's terms, chlorine makes cholesterol gummy so that it sticks to the lining of the arteries. Purifying both your drinking water, and the water in which you abthe or shower, can help to prevent this condition. Supplementation with iodine will counteract chlorine as well.

Once arteriosclerosis is present, an oral chelation program (with Mega-Chel for ex.) can help reverse it. Garlic, capsicum and herbs to support liver detoxification will also be helpful.
