Bites & Stings
Rather than mention all the possible remedies for bites and stings, there are some general remedies that you should consider for your first aid kit:
Activated charcoal is a general detoxifier and is also good for wounds and infections.
Applied to a bite, it is capable of adsorbing large amounts of the offending poison if it can get to it.
Liquefying it, even with saliva, can be soothing.
We have already mentioned garlic oil. This even helps soothe the bite of the fire ants. Bee stings are helped with charcoal or even a slice of fresh onion.
Also, don't underestimate the power of black walnut extract and lobelia essence. Lobelia has even been used for scorpion bites along with large doses of vitamin C. However seek a professional when it is called for.
Bee stings can be a problem because some people are very allergic to them. The adrenal glands are important here, and normally are able to produce anti-inflammatory compounds to help neutralize the sting's poison. Assuming a person is not seriously allergic, aloe vera juice is soothing (and helps for poison ivy too). Use vitamin E by rubbing it on the sting after the stinger is scraped free.
Plantain, yarrow, comfrey, black cohosh, red raspberry, lobelia and bayberry have been used for taking the "sting" out of the sting.
Black Widow bites
Black widow bites are always frightening, especially since the bite is small and the effects delayed somewhat. Large amounts of both vitamin A & D and Vitamin C can do a lot to help this situation.
Garlic and black cohosh have also proved valuable in these cases. This applies to Brown Recluse spider bites also.
Symptoms can also be reduced by cold packs. Here again, seek professional help when the situation warrants it.
When a virus hits you
The general indications for VS-C tcm formula include fever or inflammation and skin eruptions. It may be helpful for any viral condition that causes skin eruptions. The normal dose of this formula is one capsule daily.
It could be used for any infection and infectious diseases, especially those of a viral nature such as influenza, infective hepatitis or chickpox and shingles.
It is helpful for weak people who have reduced function of the immune system and have chronic flare ups of infection that produce fever, redness, skin eruptions or inflammation. It is also helpful for people who have used antibiotics for a long time without controlling their infections.
Recommended typical usage (for this TCM formula) should be: 1 capsule 2 times per day - 3 times a day for severe cases.
This formula works very well on canker sores, cold sores and other viral infections. Taken consistently over a period of at least 6-12 months it appears to clear the herpes virus out of the system, preventing future outbreaks. I've also seen it produce results in shingles and chickenpox.
In modern scientific studies, garlic is proving its historical reputation.
Research has demonstrated that garlic is effective against bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Studies have also demonstrated its usefulness in
combating heart disease. Garlic helps to lower high blood pressure and to
prevent (and possibly even reverse) hardening of the arteries. Research also
suggests garlic is useful for parasites and even cancer.
Louis Pasteur was the first scientist to use garlic in scientific experiments. He found that by putting a bit of garlic in a petri dish full of bacteria, that the bacteria quickly died. This experiment has been repeated by Dr. Byron Murray who says that he has watched the allicin properties of garlic kill 90% of a virus in a lab dish in thirty minutes. Studies done at the New Jersey Medical University found that a half hour after eating garlic, a sample of the person's blood would have the same destroying affect on bacteria in a petri dish.
Garlic was prized for its antimicrobial effects long before microbes were even discovered. French priests of the Middle Ages used garlic to protect themselves against bubonic plague. During World War I, European soldiers prevented infection by putting garlic directly on their wounds. Nearly every culture has used garlic for general health and longevity, from ancient Egyptians, Israelites, Greeks, Babylonians, Romans, and Chinese down to the colonial Americans. Today, garlic is one of the best selling preventive medicines in Europe, where it is accepted as safe and effective by both medical authorities and government officials.
